Meet the Friends of the Library Board
Sarah is a Mountain View public school librarian and a long-time Friends of the Library volunteer. She currently manages the Lobby Shop and enjoys meeting all the new people who visit the shop. When Sarah’s not busy helping out in our community, you can find her cooking up something amazing in her kitchen or enjoying one of the many outdoor adventures the Bay Area has to offer.
In addition to her role as the Friends Board vice president, Maggie is the person to thank for all the cool stuff you see in the Friends Lobby Shop. A long-time buyer and manager for major retail brands, Maggie has spent the last nine years overseeing merchandising for the Lobby Shop. Outside of the Friends, you may also find Maggie volunteering as a docent at Filoli Historic Trust Preservation.
Karin retired from MVPL in 2018, giving her more time to help the Friends. She volunteers in the shop and at book sales and trains Lobby Shop volunteers. Karin reads voraciously, so ask her for book recommendations. She also gardens, knits and is active with the Los Altos Mountain View League of Women Voters.
Pat serves as treasurer for the Friends. In addition to keeping the finances in order, Pat helps with book sales, online sales and membership. When Pat’s not volunteering — she also supports another Bay Area nonprofit — she loves to read, travel and knit.
Bill has been volunteering with the Friends for more than 20 years and has served in numerous volunteer roles — from working in the Lobby Shop to helping with Book Sales. A retired engineer, Bill spends his free time reading, visiting family and traveling by RV with his wife, Donna, who is also on the Friends Board.
Directors at Large
Helen is a Mountain View resident who grew up in Palo Alto, where she spent a lot of time reading in the library. When she is not reading books, Helen works as a pathologist in the biotechnology industry and has two children. She enjoys knitting, crocheting and walking at the Baylands Preserve. Helen is excited to have recently joined the Board and is looking forward to helping the Friends support our wonderful city Library.
Janice has been volunteering with the Friends since 2019 following a nearly three decade career at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. After initially volunteering in the Lobby Shop, Janice now leads volunteer coordination. When she’s not helping the Friends, Janice enjoys reading and writing poetry.
Steve is a retired software manager and engineer who has been running the Friends online sales for the past six years. Steve manages a team of volunteers to list items on Amazon or eBay, ship them and provide customer service. In his free time, Steve enjoys reading, hiking, playing pickleball, traveling and mixing up a tasty cocktail.
Bobbi Haskins is a long time Mountain View resident and avid reader who joined the Friends Board two years ago. A retired software engineer and project manager in the high tech and defense industries, she loves working with teams and making her community better in any small way she can. Bobbi currently leads the Friends’ Sorting Room, and you will often find her volunteering at Book Sales where she enjoys meeting new friends.
Tayla is a marketer and mom of two enthusiastic readers. She recently discovered the Friends after spending several years volunteering in her kids’ school library. A former journalist and veteran tech marketer, Tayla helps the Friends promote all the good work they do for the Library. When she’s not busy chasing her kids or volunteering, Tayla loves to cook (and eat).
Donna is a retired children’s librarian who has been volunteering for the Friends for nearly 30 years. She enjoys working in the Lobby Shop and helping with Book Sales. When she’s not volunteering, you can find Donna working in her garden, cheering on the Giants, or doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Leslie has volunteered with Friends since 2019, keeping the lobby shop stocked with books. When she’s not sorting materials or restocking the bookshelves, you’ll find her cycling, hiking or trail running and volunteering with Second Harvest Food Bank.
